My background

I grew up in Johannesburg, South Africa and at the age of 5 our annual family holiday to the Kruger National Park sparked my passion for African wildlife. After leaving school I spent some time abroad but decided that Africa was calling me back.

Karen Blixen

I started working as a trainee guide at a reserve in the greater Kruger region and was hooked from the start! From there I worked to attain my professional guiding qualifications and spent some time guiding for various lodges around South Africa. Experience then gave me the chance to manage camps in remote parts of Zambia, and even be part of the conservation team on an island in the Seychelles.

I also took some time working in Product and Sales for a luxury tour operator to get a deeper understanding of the safari world before the wild called me back. This time it was to East Africa, where I spent a few years guiding and managing camps in Kenya and Tanzania. After more than a decade of exploring Africa’s wild places I moved to the UK, where I now share these adventures with our guests at Wilderness.
