8/14/2024

This month’s newsletter is a special one, drafted by our team of managers at Wilderness Bisate – a collective effort of our future shining stars. Each manager was given a section to expand upon and make their own.

So, we present to you our Bisate Newsletter for July, with the entire team’s flavour and love!

As we move into the heart of 2024, we’re thrilled to share the latest updates and unforgettable experiences from Bisate.

It was a bustling month – the middle of high season, attracting guests from all around the globe, eager to experience the beauty of our gorillas and other different on-site Bisate offerings. Their generous contributions to our reforestation initiatives have made the views, overlooking verdant Volcanoes National Park, even more spectacular. We were also delighted to welcome new team members to the Bisate family and look forward to their dedication in ensuring an unforgettable stay for our guests.

The dry season has also prompted noticeable movements among the wildlife, particularly the gorillas and mountain buffaloes. Our guests enjoyed sightings of buffalo from their villas and the main area balcony while savouring their delicious lunches. One particularly territorial buffalo has become a notable presence, situated securely in a peaceful corner of the property. Also in the grounds, guests have had the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including golden monkeys, and numerous bird species. Our guide Jimmy provides insightful commentary on the diverse flora and fauna, enhancing the overall experience. Birdwatching is particularly exceptional.

Bisate Family

July was a time of significant growth, celebration, and new beginnings for the Bisate team.

This has been a remarkable month, marked by both professional and personal milestones. We had the pleasure of welcoming new team members who are already making a positive impact on our organisation. Alongside this, several of our colleagues celebrated the arrival of new babies, adding to the collective joy and excitement.

Ambitious Jean Nepo joined us from his previous position at a hotel in Kigali. His dream was to work with a conservation company, and we’re thrilled that Wilderness has made this dream a reality for him. Jean Nepo is excited to be part of the Bisate service team and is already bringing his enthusiasm and skills to our operations.

Princess, who was born and raised in northern Rwanda, has started her career journey with us after working in a restaurant in Musanze, the nearest town to Bisate. She is overjoyed to join the Bisate family and is experiencing first-hand the supportive and dynamic environment that Wilderness Bisate fosters.

Community Engagement: A Heartfelt Connection

At Bisate, we value supporting and engaging with local communities. Our guests enjoyed participating in cultural experiences that showcase Rwandan traditions. From village tours to traditional dance performances, these interactions offer a meaningful connection to the local culture. We are also proud to support various community projects, including educational initiatives and sustainable development programmes. Your stay contributes to these vital efforts, creating a positive impact beyond the lodge.

As Rwandan schools have begun their annual long holiday, a lot of children are looking to keep busy and create joy in their holidays. They were absolutely delighted when one of our guests donated soccer balls to the community around Bisate to enhance the children’s social interaction, as soccer is a much-loved game among the young in the community.

Bisate Spa Training

The soothing treatments offered by the famed Bisate Spa leave guests feeling that their day is complete – especially after a long gorilla trek. In July, there was a fantastic chance to undergo professional massage training for our Bisate therapists. In addition to being pleasant and instructive for everybody involved, the training naturally fosters the professional development of our staff. We're excited to see the results in our guests’ wellness.

Reforestation near Volcanoes National Park

In July, Jean Moise, Gaby, and Ezechiel dedicated their efforts to preparing the tree nursery for the upcoming seedling season in September, coinciding with the start of the rainy season. They have been diligently collecting seeds in anticipation of this crucial period.

The reforestation project continues to make great strides for our ecosystem, as evidenced by the arrival of an elegant buffalo that has taken up residence on the property. This buffalo is thriving on the fresh, lush grasses, a positive sign that the habitat is improving for wildlife. We hope to see more mammals and other wildlife as the grounds become increasingly inviting.

July also had favourable weather conditions, which allowed the team to effectively manage exotic plants and create new planting areas. This proactive approach will ensure the optimal growth of trees once the rainy season begins.
