September at Busanga

September was dry and humid due to the current drought in the region. However, this has not detracted in any way from the beauty of the Busanga Plains. We had cool mornings, with temperatures ranging from 8-14° Celsius, and pretty hot afternoons peaking at around 32-39° C.

The dry vegetation has made it easy to spot the many animals, many directly from our BBC main area, with our guests enjoying the beautiful ambience created by our professional service staff.

In a nutshell, Busanga Plains is a marvellous place to experience a safari…

Seen around Busanga Bush Camp

Looking out from the main area, we had countless sightings of hippos, lechwe and puku in the floodplain. Their relaxed demeanour on some days was a sign that the lions were not anywhere close.

The tranquillity in camp is unmatched; our camp’s pool area is the best place to be, and our guests chill here while enjoying a cold beverage. It’s the ideal spot to watch the acacia island where Savana and her pride relax during the day.

The famous lions of the Busanga Plains

We had three sub-adult lions frequenting camp this month. They were seen during the day at the staff cottages in the mornings, resting under a deck where it’s cooler, then later moving on to the deck itself until the early evening when they would go hunting. These are the offspring of Viana, AKA Savana.

On the morning of 27 September, we found them right next to the main area.

Wildlife at Busanga Bush Camp

We had very good feedback from all our guests in September, confirming that they enjoyed all our game drives, and our knowledgeable guides met their expectations.

They had splendid sightings of lions, elephants, cheetah, and leopards, to name just a few.

Hippos were also frequent visitors in camp, seen marking the territories or patronising the pool area.

Other sightings included herds of sable, waterbuck, bushbuck, warthogs, wildebeest, jackals, mongooses and porcupines, among many others.

We saw off these productive days with great sundowners and a variety of beverages and snacks to nibble on after the game drives.
