Condé Nast Traveler win

As we approach the festive season, we find ourselves with plenty of cause for celebration in the Place of Plenty! Mombo was recently named the Best Resort in the ‘Rest of Africa’ category in Condé Nast Traveler’s Reader’s Choice Awards. This month we took time to acknowledge this epic win with the whole team.

Achieving a win of this magnitude in such a competitive industry is no small feat. This win is a testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of all the individuals that make up the phenomenal Mombo team. We would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the whole Wilderness family. We couldn’t have done this without you.

Pula!

You’d be hard pressed to find a Motswana who does not celebrate rain (Pula in Setswana). As most travellers who have visited Botswana already know, Pula means more than just rain to us. More than just our local currency. It is celebration, life and prosperity wrapped up in four letters. A blessing to our semi-arid country. On November 28, we were treated to our first real downpour in camp. The rain started coming down in the early hours of the morning in intermittent spurts that lasted no more than 15 minutes at a time. This however, did not deter most of our guests who opted to embrace the unexpected and go out on one last safari adventure before their departure that day. As the day proceeded and the flying termites emerged from their burrows, they were met by countless birds of all kinds. Nature’s aviators put on quite the spectacle as they snapped up termite after termite on the wing.

Green season in the Delta

Summer is upon us. As you look across the landscape you’re struck by the beautiful, lush green foliage all around, peppered with bursts of bright red fireball lilies. While the increased vegetation coverage means that the wildlife may be a bit more elusive, our guests enjoyed many unforgettable sightings in the Okavango’s iconic Place of Plenty. In keeping with Nature’s seemingly perfect timing, we have sighted numerous new additions to the Mombo family, some of which (like Pepper pictured below with her two little ones) have decided to set up their nurseries in camp.

Mombo Airstrip update

The airstrip refurb is still on track for completion in a few weeks and the rain has not delayed progress much. According to the project manager, the most recent showers have actually helped along the final stages of the project.
