Ketty brings a wealth of tourism experience from across the continent to her role as GM of Thousand Hills Africa (THA) – arguably Rwanda’s leading Destination Management Company (DMC). She is eager to contribute to the development of conservation tourism in the country, while positively impacting sustainability and community upliftment.
Ketty Nshimiyimana grew up in Bujumbura, Burundi, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, and is the youngest of a family of eight children.
After completing her high school diploma at the Belgian School in Bujumbura, Ketty moved to South Africa in 2010, where she lived for over four years. She continued her academic career at Stenden South Africa in Port Alfred, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Hospitality Management. She then began the first challenge of her professional career as a Food and Beverage Supervisor at the Oyster Bay Lodge. This formative experience abroad, exploring the different parts of South Africa, sparked her passion for travelling and discovering the different cultures that make the African continent so interesting and diverse.
Following her new passion, Ketty then set her sights on Kenya, where she worked for Wakanow, an international travel agency. Wanting to make more of an impact and contribution to the industry, she joined the East Africa Tourism Platform (EATP) – a private-sector body promoting intra- and inter-regional tourism in East Africa – as the Executive Assistant to the Co-ordinator. With that move, Ketty entered the closed circle of those privileged to have their profession confused with their passion.
As she acquired more knowledge and skills in the tourism sector, and always ready for new challenges, in 2018 Ketty decided to move back her other homeland, Rwanda. She moved to Kigali and joined the Thousand Hills Africa family in 2018. She first worked as an Executive Assistant before taking over the management of Yields and Systems. In 2021, she was promoted to General Manager.
Ketty is proud to lead such a dynamic and united team, and even prouder of having the good fortune to contribute to the development of the tourism industry in Rwanda. It is with excitement that she is able to witness first-hand all the progress the country is making in becoming a truly remarkable destination.
Today, Ketty dreams of travelling around the world in her free time and discovering all the beauty of the different countries and cultures.
