After years of guiding, consulting and various sales and marketing experience within the safari industry, Craig Glatthaar joined Wilderness Safaris as its Sales Manager for the US market in 2012. He was then promoted to Business Unit Manager in 2015 where he focuses on guiding and motivating the US team to deliver life-changing journeys that inspire positive action.
Craig grew up in South Africa and his younger years were spent outdoors, catching snakes, frogs, colds and spending as much time as possible in the water. Family holidays were off-road affairs with trips through southern and East Africa in the family’s trusted old 1978 Land Rover called “Juddah”. This naturally led to a career in tourism and travel.
His studies began with a degree in Ecotourism Management at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town and ended with a post graduate degree from Stockholm University, Sweden. His two years in Sweden were a natural baptism of another kind, where he enjoyed many hours spent in the snowy forests, tracking moose and looking for brown bears. Craig also qualified with a Nature Conservation Certificate (FGASA) from North West Parks and Tourism Board, spending time studying on-site in various parks in North West province.
By constantly growing within Wilderness Safaris, Craig enjoys having a greater impact on the conservation of Africa’s beautiful wilderness areas. He is a passionate Wilderness Safaris ambassador, spreading the company’s sustainability ethos to numerous interesting people who he meets around the world.
Craig’s next step is to complete his honours degree in Zoology and to continue writing for various wildlife and conservation publications; “all whilst playing my part in the conservation of our beautiful continent”.
