Wilderness Safaris’ guest Taazima Kala-Essack reflects on her trip to Mombo, and the lasting imprint her African adventure has left…
Beat.
There’s a rhythm in the wild that’s hard to evade
It’s a gentle pulse that brings everything together in perfect harmony
It frames the stillness in the early morning calm;
Bringing purpose to every flit of a bird or every step in the graceful march of an elephant
It is punctuated by the laugh of a baboon
As the sun beats down in afternoon fervour
Late at night, it embraces the slight chill in the air,
And gives way to the depth of the lion’s roar
And yet.
The rhythm never wanes
And the pulse never dulls
As you take in the plethora of sounds, sights, smells and feel of all you are surrounded by,
It is as though you have never felt before;
A sensory deprivation you never knew existed
Awakened.
Now, you are alive; awakened
It matters not that this is your mind transporting you back to adventures many months ago
Playing tricks on your senses that muddle all time It matters not because that wilderness heartbeat now lives within you It is yours
And that is the beauty of the wild:
The perpetual, infinite rhythm.
