November 2024 – Wilderness has unveiled the brand-new website for the Wilderness Trust, the group’s independent non-profit partner. Visually aligned with Wilderness’ brand, the site – which can be explored here – helps position the Wilderness Trust to further its mission to make a positive impact on conservation and development in Africa.

The new-look website brings to life the Wilderness Trust’s five-year report, ensuring transparency, and informing donors about how and where their contributions are having a positive and measurable impact on the people and wildlife of Africa. It’s also an easy-to-navigate platform providing existing and prospective donors with critical information, such as how to donate in a cost-effective manner, and make informed and meaningful donations.

“The launch of our new website and the release of our most recent report are important stepping stones for the Wilderness Trust to achieve the greatest possible impact, at a time in history when its imperatives are more critical than ever before”, noted Charles Douglas, Chairman of the Wilderness Trust.

The Wilderness Trust is an independent non-profit fundraising organisation that benefits from its symbiotic relationship with Wilderness, a company known for pioneering high-end, low-density conservation tourism since 1983. Together they are on a mission to raise significant funding for conservation and development initiatives throughout Africa, especially those which fall into Wilderness’ Impact Strategy and Theory of Change.

“Wilderness has been operating for over 40 years, with the Wilderness Trust operating for 23 of those years; proof that we are determined to have the greatest impact possible on the world’s wildlife, wilderness, and local communities. To achieve this, we focus our conservation and community empowerment programmes under three key Impact pillars – Educate, Empower and Protect”, he explained.

The focus of each of these Impact pillars can be summarised as follows. The Educate pillar focuses on improving access to education and learning; the Empower pillar on growing conservation economies; and the Protect pillar, on increasing peaceful coexistence between wildlife and people.

Along with the high standards of governance and financial reporting that are expected of the Wilderness Trust, the new website also clearly articulates this Wilderness Impact Strategy and Theory of Change model in an immersive and easy-to-understand manner, showcasing how the organisation identifies, funds and works with projects that it believes will have a significant impact within its three Impact pillars.

“As seen in our five-year report covering the period 2018 – 2023, the Wilderness Trust has done, and continues to do, exceptional work to create positive, lasting change in Africa, so we’re especially pleased to showcase some of these highlights on our new website”, shared Charles.

According to their respective Impact pillars, some of these highlights include:

  • Educate: 2,500 children participate annually in Children in the Wilderness (CITW) Eco-Clubs, with almost 600 scholarships awarded, valued at USD1,02 million.
  • Empower: USD1,08 million spent on projects, including the distribution of 20,000 Covid relief food parcels supporting 100,000 people across six countries.
  • Protect: 25 projects, to the value of USD911,000, supported; including the planting of more than 100,000 trees in reforestation efforts.

“Now more than ever, and through the release of our recent report and the launch of our new website, we are excited to share this increasingly important story with our stakeholders, partners and the public. It has been 23 years since the inception of the Trust, and we are proud to be working together with the other trustees, stakeholders, local community trusts and like-minded conservationists in the areas where we operate, to extend our reach and ability to make a difference to Africa, its people and its wildlife”, concluded Charles.
