Seeing a lion is always a thrill, but seeing lions playing or moving around makes the sighting far more interesting. Johan von Backstrom, DumaTau’s General Manager, spotted two lionesses and five sub-adult cubs lazing in the afternoon sunlight right next to the camp’s airstrip. The two adult females then proceeded to leave the scene in search of their next meal. The cubs were now unattended and free to do as they pleased. And what better place to find entertainment than at the airstrip with all sorts of things to smell and taste!
The lions proceeded to play and bite on the tyres of the safety barrier before moving on to explore the airstrip markers. The sighting left everyone feeling a sense of joy – what’s not to smile about when animals appear to be having ‘fun’?
