A spectacular New Year’s celebration

January brought new beginnings to Wilderness Magashi. It was a month full of amazing moments, happy guests, and beautiful wildlife, where the nature gave us many wonderful sights. From exciting leopard sightings to the warm welcome from our team, Magashi remains a special place of beauty, adventure, and friendship.

With such a great start to the year, we look forward to the months ahead, ready to make each day special and create more unforgettable memories, especially with Magashi Peninsula on the horizon.

Magashi was filled with excitement as our guests eagerly awaited the arrival of 2025. The camp was fully occupied, and the celebrations were nothing short of magical. Many guests chose to stay awake until midnight, embracing the joy of the moment and cherishing the unique experience of welcoming the new year at Magashi. Staff members hosted, and celebrated alongside them, ensuring a warm and memorable night.

Unprecedented wildlife sightings at Magashi

The start of the year brought a remarkable first for Magashi – an incredible five leopard sightings in a single day, featuring three different leopards. Our guests, along with our expert guides, were thrilled to witness such a rare and breathtaking event.

Mahoro (one of the female lions reintroduced to Akagera National Park as part of Rwanda's conservation efforts) and her cubs continue to roam the concession, and this month, they made Tent 1 their territory. In a dramatic scene, they successfully hunted and left their kill near the room, only for a crocodile to take advantage of the leftovers once the lions had moved on.

Adding to the excitement, guests were treated to the unusual sight of lions mating (Mahoro, as well as one of her younger females), meaning the promise of more lion cubs in just a few months’ time – a truly rare and captivating moment in the wild.

But it wasn’t just the big cats making an appearance around camp; rhinos and elephants were also drawn to the main area near Tent 1, with elephants joyfully swimming in the lake, and a crash of six white rhinos settling nearby.

Our unsung heroes: the Housekeeping team

At Magashi, every team member contributes to making our guests feeling special, and this month, we celebrate the dedication of our Housekeeping team, whose talents bring smiles to every table.

Magashi is known for its incredible wildlife and warm hospitality, but behind the scenes, our dedicated Housekeepers ensure every guest enjoys a clean and comfortable stay. Though rarely seen, their work is evident in every spotless room, fresh linen, clean staff uniforms and thoughtful touches that make Magashi feel like home.

Our Housekeepers play a key role in creating a welcoming experience. They keep guest rooms in perfect condition, and add small surprises that delight our visitors. Their dedication ensures that every guest feels valued and well cared for.

This month, we celebrate and thank our hardworking Housekeeping team. Your effort, kindness, and attention to detail do not go unnoticed. You are the heart of Magashi, making every stay special.
